

The Revolution built institutions and codified the language and ideas that still define Americans’ image of themselves. Seen from 1763, nothing would have seemed as improbable as the American Revolution. And yet, in a little over a decade, those same colonists would declare their independence and break away from the British Empire. The British North American colonists had just helped to win a world war and most, like Rush, had never been more proud to be British. Upon seeing the king’s throne in the House of Lords, Rush said he “felt as if he walked on sacred ground” with “emotions that I cannot describe.” 1 Throughout the eighteenth century, colonists had developed significant emotional ties with both the British monarchy and the British constitution.

In the 1760s, Benjamin Rush, a native of Philadelphia, recounted a visit to Parliament. The Consequences of the American Revolution Republicans have worked hard to get economies across the country going again, and it is exciting to see how pro-growth polices are creating new opportunities in the Seventh District! This week, Marion County announced that their unemployment rate in April reached the lowest level in 30 years! l Additionally, Sunstrand, LLC announced they are opening their doors in Florence, creating 42 new jobs through an $8.4 million capital investment. We also passed Right-to-Try legislation, which gives terminally ill patients the chance to find a cure for their disease by improving access to experimental treatments.This legislation provides hope for patients and their families, and I am happy to say it is on the way to President Trump for his signature!


We repealed a substantial portion of Dodd-Frank, easing regulations on community banks that provide credit to hard working small businesses and taxpayers. It also gives our troops a well-deserved pay raise! We continued our work to improve the lives of veterans by passing legislation that makes meaningful reforms to the Department of Veterans Affairs and ensures they have access to the quality care they have earned. We kept a promise to our military by passing the National Defense Authorization Act, which provides our military the training, equipment and support they need to be ready for any threat they may face. It was a busy week in Washington- House Republicans passed major legislation on behalf of our military, veterans, taxpayers and community banks, and terminally ill patients.
